Abstract

In April 2017, entering the fourth month in 2017, Metro City experienced deflation. Expenditure groups that triggered deflation were dominated by foodstuffs with a deflationary contribution of 0.4621 per cent followed by food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco with a deflationary contribution of 0.0282 per cent and followed by transportation, communication and financial services group with donations Deflation 0.0012 percent. While the expenditure group that withstood the deflation rate in Metro City in April 2017 ie housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel with inflation of 0.3120 percent, followed by education, recreation and sports group with inflation rate of 0.0062 percent. Then followed by the health group who experienced inflation with a share of 0.0022 percent and clothing category that experienced inflation with a share of 0.0009 percent. Changes in the index in the seven expenditure groups led to deflation in Metro City by 0.17 percent.

Commodities that contributed considerably to deflation during April 2017 were red onion, red pepper, chicken meat, cayenne pepper, sugar, ceramics, vegetable tomatoes, powder / liquid detergent soap, oranges and mackerel. Based on the calculation of Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April 2017, Metro City deflation was caused by a decrease in index in the foodstuff category experiencing deflation of 1.59 percent; Food, beverage, cigarette and tobacco group with deflation 0.16 percent and transport, communication and financial services group with deflation of 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the group holding back the rate of deflation is housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group which experienced inflation of 1.41 percent; Education, recreation and sports groups with inflation of 0.08 percent; Health group with 0.04 percent inflation and clothing group with 0.01 percent inflation.

In April 2017, based on inflation figures from 82 cities observed in the development of prices, there were 53 cities experiencing inflation and 29 deflationary cities. The highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang at 1.02 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Cilacap with inflation of 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Singaraja at 1.08 percent, while the lowest deflation occurred in Manado and DKI Jakarta with deflation of 0.02 percent. Metro City with deflation 0.17 percent ranked 65th nationally. Of the 23 cities on the island of Sumatra, the highest inflation occurred in Pangkal Pinang and the lowest occurred in Tembilahan by 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Lhokseumawe at 0.68 percent while the lowest deflation occurred in Palembang by 0.08 percent. Metro City with a deflation of 0.17 percent ranked 14th on the island of Sumatra.
